Creating Brave Spaces to empower young and emerging adults to find, develop and publicly present their voices as agents of societal change.
Through the intersections of Literary Arts, Youth Development, and Social Justice programs, Phonetic Spit creates Brave Space to empower young and emerging adults to find, develop and publicly present their voices as agents of societal change.
The Spoken World Series creates an intimate environment where poetry meets movement and sound. Through dynamic performance and explosive content, this series engages audiences in an emotional dialogue that deconstructs complex issues.
Phonetic Spit in partnership with ASU’s School of Film, Dance, and Theatre and Mesa Arts Center’s ‘Spoken World Series’ is excited to launch its new endeavour, The Behind the Word Series. The Behind the Word Series takes a slightly different approach in the appreciation of the Culture of Spoken Word Poetry.
As a part of a partnership with the Mesa Arts Center, Phonetic Spit produces an All-City Poetry Slam that brings together students from various high schools and middles schools for a two-day event surrounding the platform youth voices.
Dedicated to curating interdisciplinary performances that fuse together politics, dance, spoken word, live (soul) music, and community partnerships in an effort to combat the silencing of marginalized voices.
Poetry Out Loud seeks to foster the next generation of literary readers by capitalizing on the latest trends in poetry – recitation and performance. Through Poetry Out Loud, students can master public speaking skills, build self-confidence and learn about their literary heritage.
